I’m smitten with upcycling old items. I love seeing something that’s no longer useful in its original form turned into something else … and I love a whimsical and slightly quirky twist. I’ve made lots and lots of upcycled coffee cuffs in the past {a branded cork coffee cuff, an upcycled basketball coffee cuff, a laced leather coffee cuff, an upcycled sweater coffee cuff, a monogrammed necktie coffee cuff, a suit jacket coffee cuff, and a shirt sleeve coffee cuff} and when my son recently outgrew a pair of jeans, I couldn’t resist using one of the pockets to make this upcycled monogrammed jeans pocket coffee cuff. It’s cute and quirky and it would make a really great gift … especially if you paired it with a gift card to a favorite coffee spot!
To make this denim coffee cuff, I used an old pair of jeans {if you don’t have one, you can always find really cheap jeans at the thrift store} and glitter iron on heat transfer.
I cut around the pocket, right through the main part of the jeans …
… and then cut across the middle of the pocket. You can pull the pocket over a coffee cup to determine how long you want the cuff to be.
If the pocket is too baggy on the cup, cut a piece out of the back side of the cuff and stitch or glue a seam to make it fit.
Use your nail or the edge of the scissors to fray the cut edges a bit.
Use a Cricut or other cutting machine to cut a monogram from heat transfer and apply it to the denim with an iron or EasyPress machine {one of my favorite tools!}. I used glitter iron on in a fun color so it would really pop against the denim but you can obviously make it as subtle or as bold as you like. You may want to skip the glitter if a man will be using this {wink}.
Slip the finished cuff over a cup …
… and enjoy a cup of coffee in upcycled style!
