A Felted Coffee Cuff for Valentine’s Day

I’m joining a group of other bloggers today to bring you a Valentine’s Day blog hop!  Once you read all the details of my project, be sure to scroll to the bottom of this post to see links to the other projects and recipes.  But first, let me show you a super simple Valentine’s Day gift idea: a no-sew felted coffee cuff, a really fun way to repurpose an old outdated sweater!

a no-sew felted coffee cuff

To make this sweet coffee cuff, you’ll need two wool sweaters in coordinating or constrasting colors {easy to find at your local thrift store}.  The sweaters must be wool or mohair or another shrinkable fiber.  Wash the sweaters in hot water then take a peek.  If they look like they need to shrink more, wash them again, then dry on high heat.  This process felts the sweaters, allowing you to cut into them without fraying.

Cut the cuff from one sweater and cut a heart shape from another sweater.

The cuff will slide right over the coffee cup and becomes the main body of the cuff.  The seams and edges of the cuff are felted and won’t fray even over time.  Use hot glue to attach the heart to the front of the cuff … or, if you prefer, you can stitch it on.  A decorative blanket stitch would be cute.

That’s it.  Besides washing/drying time, this felted coffee cuff project takes less than five minutes and makes a thoughtful gift for a friend or a teacher!  {To see a clever coffee cuff idea for a man, check out my monogrammed tie coffee cuff.}

    What a clever idea. I never would’ve thought to use a sweater sleeve for a coffee cuff. Love it!

    LOVE this idea! I crochet coffee cozies but this is so much faster and looks wonderful. I have TWO boxes of wool sweaters now that I’m going to go through. I usually make mittens out of them but some are going to be coffee cozies!
    THANKS for the great idea!
