DIY Beverage or Cocktail Garden

One of my favorite parts of spring and summer {and even fall here in Texas} is growing fresh herbs and vegetables in pots outside.  I don’t have the greenest thumb but I’ve learned what I can keep alive and which herbs I regularly use and I stick to those … with a few variations just for fun.  Last year I planted a pizza themed garden and this year I decided to give it a bit of an overhaul and turn it into a DIY beverage or cocktail garden!

I love to muddle fresh herbs into iced tea, mocktails, spritzers, and cocktails {click on those links to get some great summer recipe ideas!} or freeze them into herb-infused ice cubes, and I thought it might be fun to have a container garden dedicated to that.

I cleared out last year’s container but reused the soil since it still looked healthy and chose herbs that I knew would mix well and add delightful flavors to drinks.

I planted thyme, basil, rosemary …

… and three different varieties of mint {chocolate mint, spearmint, and peppermint}.  I chose herbs that I knew I would enjoy in drinks but you can experiment with any combination of herbs.  You might come up with the next fabulous cocktail idea!  At a minimum, a cocktail garden might prompt you to be a little more bold and adventurous with your drink combinations.  Even a simple glass of ice cold water is better with a sprig of rosemary or a bit of freshly muddled peppermint.

One of the things I loved most about last year’s pizza garden was the upcycled sign made with a dollar store cutting board.  I peeled off the old vinyl and updated it with new vinyl.  Adding a little toast seemed perfect for a beverage garden.

I’ve already used some of the herbs from this beverage or cocktail garden and I’m looking forward to experimenting this summer with some new drinks … and of course, I’ll be sure to share them here so you can enjoy them too!

What herbs would you plant in a cocktail garden?
