Upcycled Monogrammed Necktie Coffee Cuff

Father’s Day is quickly approaching and today I have a super quick, super fun gift idea: an upcycled monogrammed necktie coffee cuff.  This coffee cuff has one simple stitched line but can also be made in a no-sew version, making it a gift that anyone can give.  If the kids love making homemade Father’s Day gifts, or you love an upcycled craft project, this is the perfect idea!

To make an upcycled monogrammed necktie coffee cuff, you’ll need an old necktie {I bought one at the thrift store for $1.99 and there are always a million colors and designs there}, a disposable coffee cup for sizing, iron on heat transfer, and a weeding tool.

This project was made on a Silhouette machine but you can also make this on a Cricut machine, adapting the instructions to be made in Cricut Design Space.

To make the necktie coffee cuff, size the cuff by wrapping the tie around the cup …

… and then cut off the thin end, leaving enough extra tie so that the pointed end overlaps by an inch or so.

Pin the ends together with the pointed end on top …

… and stitch a straight line down the length of the cuff, leaving the pointed end to stick out.  To make a no-sew version, you can use fabric glue {or even a glue gun} to attach the pieces together.

A monogram is a great way to complete the look and add a personal touch to the coffee cuff.

To make this monogram, I used heat transfer and ironed it on.

Using the cutting machine software and the text option, I made a monogram.  I typed the first and last letter, leaving a large space in between, and then typed a separate letter for the middle and slid it into place.  Does that make sense?  I then used the group command to keep them all together.

When using heat transfer, you have to flip your text to the mirror image …

Using a hot iron and a cloth over top, I pressed the letters in place.  Once it had cooled, I peeled the plastic backing off and had a snazzy little monogram.

{Update: since Cricut came out with the Cricut Easypress, that’s the ONLY tool I use to adhere iron on heat transfer onto any surface.  With a consistent temperature and a built-in timer, it makes the process simple and foolproof, yielding excellent results every time.}

Isn’t that a fun Father’s Day gift?  And super easy to make, right?  If you make one, I’d love to see it!  Share a photo on the Dukes and Duchesses facebook page!

    What a fun idea for Dad’s. My hubby actually has a few old ties in the back of the closet that would be perfect for this!

    I love this!! So cute. My hubby never wears his ties, I could totally make this with one hiding in his closet. Pinning!
