I love vintage and upcycled elements scattered through my decor at Christmas time and what’s better than a Christmas tree decorated with junk or created entirely out of old items?  That makes my heart speed up a bit and if you feel the same, you’ll love these upcycled Christmas tree ideas!  I haven’t started decorating for Christmas yet but these ideas have me completely inspired!

25 upcycled christmas tree ideas

Last year, I had a kitchen Christmas tree decorated with cookie cutter ornaments and I made an upcycled plastic spoon tree topper that was the perfect finishing touch {and since it was made with dollar store spoons, it was also super cheap}.

Go through the scrap wood pile in your garage and make a wood trim and knob Christmas tree.  I love the unexpected look of the knobs and hooks and the little pops of color they add.  {If you need supplies for this project, hit up ReStore to find them really cheap!}

Glass globes can always be found at ReStore or at your local thrift store, and this glass globe Christmas tree is the perfect way to upcycle them!  You could even string some cute white lights around it if you wanted a more whimsical look.

Most of us have a stash of buttons and if not, you can buy them in bulk at most craft stores.  These upcycled button trees are cute and colorful and they’d be a great project to make with the kids.

Have you walked by old mug trees at the thrift store?  This repurposed mug tree is such a fun upcycle and the perfect decor for the holiday season.

If you’ve got a garage full of wood scraps, turn them into a rustic stacked wood Christmas tree!

I have a real thing for spindles, and this vintage spindle Christmas tree is gorgeous.  I love the variety of shapes and colors!

This idea is so clever!  A regular old topiary became a repurposed topiary Christmas tree with the addition of some simple greenery.  It’s the perfect way to take an item from one season to the next.

Vintage rulers and yardsticks are my love language {I’m pretty smitten with anything vintage}, and this vintage ruler Christmas tree is such a fun way to use them.  And if you don’t want an entire tree, you can use them to make a star tree topper!

Don’t throw out those old fence boards!  Turn them into a fence board Christmas tree instead!

There are so many amazing ideas for repurposing Christmas ornaments and this mini ornament Christmas tree is one of my favorites.  The monotone look is gorgeous but I also think it would look super cute and whimsical with colored ornaments.

How about a rustic tree made out of branches?  This idea is so simple and so pretty.  I love the added decorations, too!

If you’ve only got a small stash of scrap wood or trim and not enough to make a big tree, make a small scrap wood trim Christmas tree that can be placed on the mantel or a shelf.

Paper doilies are so inexpensive and most of us have a few lying around.  Turn them into paper doily Christmas trees!  A whole forest would be so cute!

Hit up your ribbon stash, grab a few old candlesticks at the thrift store, and make these upcycled candlestick and styrofoam trees.  They’re a perfect way to add texture and color to your holiday decor.

Do you walk by all those lampshades at the thrift store?  I never know what to do with them but this repurposed lampshade Christmas tree is so clever and so pretty!  And pop over to check out all the details because it looks amazing decorated as well.

Turn small pieces of used wood into reclaimed wood Christmas trees.  This is a simple DIY even if you don’t feel super talented with power tools.

Gather some books from around the house and use them to create a book Christmas tree.  This idea is so easy and takes just minutes.  Wouldn’t it be cute in a classroom, library, or playroom?

This tobacco stick tree bird feeder is not only pretty but practical too!  It’s such a cute way to remember the birds this winter.

I love the simplicity of Scandinavian style and this wooden dowel Scandinavian style tree is gorgeous.  It’s also such a fun way to display small ornaments … the vintage tin base has me swooning.

This twig Christmas tree gift topper is so simple and could also easily be made into wall art by placing it on a canvas or frame backing.

My mason jar lid collection seems to grow and I always have more lids than jars.  This mason jar lid tree is the perfect way to repurpose them!

Sift through the button stash for colorful buttons to make this Christmas tree button craft.  It’s so cute and a fun idea for the kids, too.

If you’ve got old books lying around, turn the pages into a book page Christmas tree.  This idea is perfect for a small space!

And when Christmas is over and you’re taking your Christmas tree down and getting ready to dispose of it, upcycle the entire tree into pine-scented potpourri!
