I love rustic, distressed projects and this rustic scrap wood Christmas tree fits that bill perfectly!  Made from scrap wood and an old branch, it can be whipped up in no time!  Check out the full tutorial below then click through the links at the end of this post to find a pile of other easy build DIY Christmas projects!

rustic scrap wood Christmas tree

To make a scrap wood Christmas tree, you’ll need to raid your scrap wood pile.  Mine is getting bigger by the day so I’m always looking for ways to use up some of those extra pieces!  For this project, I used different pieces of trim, some white and some wood, but you could also use plain pieces of wood.  You’ll also need an old piece of log {trim the bottom so it’s flat and make sure the log is thick enough that it can stand on its own} and a 1/4 inch thick piece of plywood.

Cut the scrap pieces to varying lengths.  I just eyeballed them, cut the first {longest} piece, then cut every subsequent piece a bit shorter than the last.

I used my Ryobi JobPlus multi-tool with a sanding sheet attachment …

Then, starting with the bottom piece, I leveled it and centered it on the log, and attached it using the Ryobi 18 GA Cordless Brad Nailer {oh my, how I love this tool!}.

Since I was going for a rustic look, I was very haphazard with my placement of the nails, not worrying about centering them or lining them up.

I added each additional piece, making sure the final piece stuck a bit above the end of the log in order to cover it completely.

The final touch?  A whimsical star cut with a jigsaw from 1/4 inch plywood.  I hot glued the star onto the top piece of wood.

Easy and cute.  Wouldn’t a whole little forest of different sized rustic scrap wood trees be adorable?
