Scandinavian-Style Candlesticks

I love the simple project I’m sharing with you today: Scandinavian-style candlesticks. I was inspired by these fabulous candlesticks but at $48 a pair, I knew I could make something similar but far more cost-effective.  I made a pair of candlesticks for less than $2 {I already had the wood in my scrap pile}.  They’re not perfect but they are pretty cute and the imperfections just add character, right? {wink}

I started with a long 4×4 and cut two rectangles, somewhere between 5 and 7 inches in height.  I cut two different sizes so that my finished candlesticks would be different heights.  Using a miter saw, I angled the roofs at 45 degrees.  I didn’t worry about getting them perfectly centered since the candlesticks have such a whimsical feel.

To create the doorway, my Dad {who I’ve started calling “my blog assistant”} ran the block through the table saw, making side-by-side slices until we had the doorway at the right width.

The final step is to drill a hole into one side of the roof.  Be sure the size of the hole matches the size of your copper coupling.  I believe I used a 3/4 inch coupling.  A note from experience: this step would really be simpler if you drilled the hole prior to mitering the roof.

Add a copper coupling to the hole and place your candlestick inside.  That’s it: an adorable rustic candlestick holder.  Be sure not to let your candle burn down too low and never leave a burning candle unattended.

These Scandinavian-style candlesticks look so cute on my mantel … and they’d look really fun painted in bright, random colors as well!
