Did you see my upcycled wall shelf last week? I turned an old coffee table into a fun and quirky shelf to hold some decorative items and add a little character to my room {I love a good whimsical project!}. I strung a DIY colorful wood garland across it and wanted to share the simple tutorial to make this garland. It’s a cheap and easy way to add color and interest to a space and takes just minutes to throw together!
To make a wood garland, you’ll need wood squares {you can cut these yourself but it’s easier to buy a package of thin squares online or in the wood section at your local craft store}, craft paint in coordinating colors of your choice, a small foam brush, twine or string, and a glue gun.
Use the foam brush to paint a section of each wood piece … or the whole thing, if you’d prefer. I like the color blocked look with the exposed wood but you can obviously paint them any way you want to suit your decor and style. Make sure you paint the thin sides as well.
Let the paint dry fully and then use the glue gun to attach the string to the top of the back of each wood piece, leaving a small space between each piece, if desired.
Let the glue fully dry …
… then hang the garland wherever you want, adding some cute color to your home decor.
The unexpected look of wood rather than fabric is a fun twist on a garland!
