Easy Fabric and Burlap Banner

Remember last month when I shared my cereal box cuckoo clock along with other cereal box projects from other bloggers? Well, this month we’ve banded together again and we’re all sharing burlap projects made on the Cricut.  I made a super quick and easy fabric and burlap banner that gets a touch of whimsy from pom pom trim and adds some color to any room!

I’ve cut a lot of different mediums on my Cricut {soda cans, wood veneer, chipboard} but this was the first time I cut burlap.  And I was a bit nervous, truthfully.  It shreds and moves and just doesn’t cater to a great cut.

But wow.  The Cricut Maker handled it like a pro.  I created triangles in Cricut Design Space then used the fabric cutting mat and cut with the rotary blade and it worked perfectly!  The cuts were crisp and clean and looked amazing when I pulled the triangles off the mat.

I love a bit of fraying around the edges, but if you don’t, you can apply a bit of fray check to the edges and let it dry.

I love burlap but it isn’t quite colorful enough for me so I cut a medley of fabric triangles {one inch smaller} as well.

I laid the fabric triangles on top of the burlap triangles and held them together with a dab of hot glue at the top.  You could stitch them as well but I didn’t feel like dragging out my sewing machine {totally lazy, I know}.

I attached the pieces together by hot gluing them onto pom pom trim.  You could also use ribbon or bias tape but I love the bit of whimsy that you get with the pom pom trim.  I’m a firm believer that you can’t go wrong with pom poms and they should be found in most home decor {wink}.

It’s as easy as that.  Just string it up wherever you want a bit of color and whimsy: over a window frame instead of a valance, across the mantel, or over an old door like this one.

Garlands are such a great way to add color to a room.

Love the banner. I have a bunch of burlap coffee bean sacks and trying to find some great upcycle ideas.
