Once I see my first pumpkin spice latte, I deem it fall season … regardless of what the calendar might say!  And that means it’s time to dig out the fall decor, curl up with a warm blanket, and savor my favorite season.  This year I made a new upcycled fall wreath made with aluminum cans and combined different mediums and colors to create some really cute and simple door decor!  {Be sure to read on because I’ve joined up with a group of my favorite bloggers to bring you a whole pile of ideas for fall!}

To make this repurposed wreath, I started with a foam wreath form and thick white yarn.

I wrapped the wreath form with yarn, wrapping it tightly around, and secured the ends with a dab of hot glue.

Then came the fun part: I added metal flowers made from drink cans.  I used La Croix cans but you can use any soda cans you have lying around.  Use scissors to carefully cut the cans open and spread them flat.  You may want to wear gloves to protect your hands from uneven edges.

You can cut flowers in a freehand style using tin snips or scissors but I used my Cricut Explore Air 2 to cut these flowers.  I laid the aluminum on a strong grip mat, set the dial to custom and selected aluminum, then cut out flowers in different shapes and sizes.

I used the front, colored metal for some of the flowers but I wanted to add a bit of orange into the mix so I roughly painted the back of some flowers with orange craft paint.  Once the paint was dry, I laid the flowers out in the arrangement I wanted and used hot glue to attach them to the wreath.

I dug some tiny chalkboard picks out of my craft stash, added a little message, and tucked them behind the flowers to complete the wreath.

I love the standard fall colors of orange and green mixed with a pop of blue.  Turquoise, blue, and teal are my new favorites in this year’s fall decor.

To hang the wreath, I added a piece of fabric to the top …

… and that’s all there is to it: a simple but colorful upcycled fall wreath.  Just my style.

    Very pretty! Love the tin can flowers. Probably a lot easier than making fabric ones. Visiting from Wine’d Down Wednesday party.

    Love this wreath idea – anytime you can reuse and recycle items that would otherwise be trashed, it’s amazing! I will have to copy this idea for my front door!
