This fourth of July these simple DIY wire star toppers will be shooting out of all our red, white, and blue cupcakes … and maybe topping some of the other food too! They take no time at all to make and they’re such a festive touch for Independence Day … but they’d also be adorable for birthday parties or any occasion where a celebration is in order!
To make these wire star toppers, you’ll need
fairly thick craft wire {galvanized is preferred}
a star-shaped cookie cutter in the size you want {I used a cookie cutter that was about one and a half inches wide}, and
To get started, hold the end of the wire against the cookie cutter {beginning at one of the inward corners} and begin wrapping, pressing the wire into the angles of the cookie cutter and flat against the points to form the star shape.
You can wrap only once if desired but to get a bit of a three dimensional effect, wrap the wire around the cookie cutter two or three times, then use the needle nose pliers to twist the wire downward and cut it …
… leaving a straight piece long enough to poke into the top of a cupcake.
If you prefer, use gold or colored {red or blue} coated wire to create the cupcake toppers.
These wire star toppers are such a simple and quick craft but they add a bit of fun to ordinary cupcakes.
And who doesn’t love to make a holiday just a bit more festive?
