S’Mores Bar for the 4th of July

When I think of summer, two things instantly come to mind: the 4th of July and s’mores.  Both are highlights of the season and favorites in our family.  And I’ve now combined them to create a red, white, and blue patriotic s’mores bar that’s perfect for the 4th of July!

S’mores are always fun and so easy to throw together.  And it’s easy to make a few alternations so they fit any theme you want.  A number of summers ago we hosted a girls-only pink s’mores night that took five minutes to plan and created lasting memories for our guests.

To create this 4th of July s’mores bar, I stuck with a red, white, and blue theme.  I filled a bowl with seasonal star-shaped marshmallows in red, white, and blue {these marshmallows can be found at most grocery stores this time of year} …

To make the coated graham crackers, I melted candy melt {found at craft stores} in the microwave, dipped square graham crackers halfway in, used the back of a spoon to smooth off the excess, and placed them in the freezer to harden.

A dish full of chocolate pieces finishes off the s’mores bar.  And if you really want to stick with the red, white, and blue theme, white chocolate pieces are the way to go.  We prefer the flavor of milk chocolate so I used regular chocolate pieces.

Kids and grown-ups alike will be thrilled with the idea of toasting marshmallows for s’mores …

… and even more excited about a patriotic theme that makes the holiday feel festive and fun!  Simply add fireworks for the best 4th of July ever!
