I’m getting ready for summer entertaining with these simple DIY felt cozies for mason jars!  And I’ve got you covered with creative inspiration for the entire summer.  I’ve teamed up with 109 other bloggers for the ULTIMATE red, white, and blue round-up!  Be sure to read through the entire post, visit the links to all the other projects {listed at the bottom of this post}, and check out the pinterest board for the best patriotic pins!

felt cozies for mason jars

To make these simple felt cozies, you’ll need strips of red felt.  Mine are about three inches wide but you can make them to fit your mason jars.  Be sure the length fits around the mason jar with some excess {you’ll trim the excess off later}.

felt strips

Measure the strip around the mason jar and mark a stitching line.  Make sure you stitch the cozy tight enough so that it won’t slip off the glass but not too tight {you don’t want it looking stretched or being impossible to slide on}.  Stitch along the marking line.

Trim the felt close to the stitched line.  I like that raw edge and use my cozies with this side facing out but if you like a clean look, flip the stitched line to the inside.

cut seam allowance

You have a few choices for adding text to the felt cozy.  I used iron-on heat transfer cut with my cutting machine but you could also make a freezer paper stencil and paint the text on or use fabric paint and freehand it.  I added “cheers” to my cozies but you can obviously personalize them any way you want.

Simple as can be, right?  You can make an entire set in less than thirty minutes.  Wouldn’t they make a fun hostess gift?

Not only do they look super cute and add a fun touch to the party decor {they’d look so cute paired with this Fourth of July paper chain}, but they’ll keep those glasses from slipping out of your hand when the condensation builds up {or is that only a Texas problem?}.
