This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Mezzetta®. The opinions and text are all mine.

I love to go on picnics. It seems like the perfect, summery, romantic way to enjoy a day. And I’m really picky about my picnic food. It has to be delicious and a bit unique. This deli-style Italian picnic sandwich is the most delicious sandwich I’ve ever made {pinky promise} and perfect for toting in your picnic basket.

italian picnic sandwich

To make an Italian picnic sandwich, you’ll need a long loaf of soft Italian bread, Mezzetta Red Hot Chili Pepper Everything Spread, Mezzetta Savory Garlic Everything Spread, Mezzetta Deli-Sliced Mild Pepper Rings, Mezzetta Garlic-Stuffed Olives, sliced salami, sliced turkey, sliced provolone cheese, shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and pepper.

I’m just going to warn you: the Savory Garlic Everything Spread is so flavorful that you’re going to start spreading it on everything {see how appropriate the name is?}. It’s a new favorite for me! And I’m such a sucker for great branding.

To make the sandwich, cut the loaf of bread in half. Spread a generous amount of Red Hot Chili Pepper Everything Spread on one side and a generous amount of Savory Garlic Everything Spread on the other side.

… then add shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, and Mild Pepper Rings. {The meat, cheese, and spreads will prevent the bread from getting soggy on the way to the picnic but if your lunch will be packed well in advance, you could always add the tomatoes and peppers right before serving.} Sprinkle with pepper.

Close the sandwich, wrap tightly in plastic wrap, and head to a romantic, outdoor picnic site.

Don’t forget cold drinks and some chips for the side, and a sharp serrated knife for cutting the sandwich!
