Monogrammed Marbled Mugs

Monogrammed marbled mugs.  That’s a mouthful, isn’t it?  But how fun are these?  I’ve seen piles of marbled projects but I decided to take the marbled mug a step further and add a monogram to personalize it.  They turned out really fun and I’m so pumped about sipping my coffee from these colorful cups every morning.

To make monogrammed marbled mugs, you’ll need plain white mugs {I found these ones at Walmart for eighty eight cents each}, letters cut from removable vinyl, containers to hold the solution, and nailpolish in your favorite colors.

Apply the vinyl monogram to the front of the mug, pressing all edges down firmly and ensuring that the monogram is low enough on the cup to be covered entirely by the water and nailpolish solution.

Add warm water to a plastic or foil container, filling it to the height you want the color to reach on the mug.  Drizzle or swirl nailpolish into the water …

… and push the mug down into the water and straight up again.  The nailpolish will cling to the cup in a very random pattern.  Remove the vinyl monogram immediately, pulling it off gently to avoid peeling back any of the nailpolish.  Don’t worry if the monogram doesn’t end up perfect … messy edges suit the style of the watercolor mug perfectly.

Set the cup on top of skewers or a baking rack to allow it to fully dry.

Once the mugs have dried completely, they’re ready to use.  Hand wash them or apply a coat of dishwasher safe mod podge to protect the color.

These colorful monogrammed mugs would make such sweet gifts … or just the perfect addition to the kitchen cupboard!
