How to Make a Fabric Monogrammed Mug

I love monograms {I do live in the South, after all} and I love monogrammed mugs but a fabric monogrammed mug is now my absolute favorite.  This tutorial will show you how to make a fabric monogrammed mug that’s dishwasher safe.  Amazing, right?  And it couldn’t be easier!

how to make a fabric monogrammed mug

To make a fabric monogrammed mug, you’ll need a cute mug {plain is just fine but a patterned mug is always super cute}, a small piece of coordinating fabric, dishwasher-safe mod podge {affiliate link}, and a paintbrush or pouncer.

Cut an initial from the fabric.  I free-handed this letter but you could also print out a block letter template using a word processing program and use that as a pattern.  Be careful not to fray the edges.

Choose the area where the monogram will go and use a paintbrush to cover the area in dishwasher-safe mod podge.  Place the letter on top of the mod podge, press it down, then cover the fabric in a layer of mod podge, making certain to cover all the edges completely.  Don’t spread the mod podge all over the cup … just keep it in the area right around the letter.

Let the cup dry for 1-3 hours {following the manufacturer’s instructions} then apply another layer of mod podge.

Cover with three or four layers of dishwasher-safe mod podge, letting each layer dry 1-3 hours in between.

That’s it.  The mod podge instructions say to let it cure for twenty-eight days but after that the cup will be completely dishwasher safe.

Tomorrow I’ll share a super cute Valentine’s Day idea with this mug as the star but before I do that, be sure to check out a few other monogrammed projects.
