Paint Dyed Pumpkin Pillow

Earlier this week I shared the simple upcycled copper mold fall wreath that I made for my front door and today I have a super cute {and completely easy!} paint dyed pumpkin pillow tutorial to share with you.  These fun projects are all part of my fall front porch tour so be sure to check that out!

I was wandering through the craft store a week or so ago and saw plain, round white pillows.  They instantly got my mind reeling and I decided it would be super cute to turn this round pillow into a pumpkin for my porch!  I had some orange Rit dye in my craft stash and managed to dig up a branch, some wire, and a burlap leaf as well.

I was going to dip dye the pillow cover but decided to try something a bit different.  I wanted the pillow to have a watercolor effect so instead of dipping the cover, I painted the dye on with a paintbrush.  I simply dipped the brush in the dye and made strokes all over the pillow cover, leaving some areas lighter and allowing some areas to get darker.  I filled in most of the pillow but left some white showing so that it really would look more like a watercolor.

When I finished painting with the dye, I let it dry completely.

I cut the branch to the length I wanted and hot glued it on to the top of the pillow …

… then hot glued the burlap leaf on and wrapped some wire around the pumpkin stem and curled it around a pen to look like vines.

The final result is super whimsical and cute: a big fat pumpkin that looks perfect sitting on the headboard bench by my front door.
