Repurposed Copper Mold Fall Wreath

The minute September 1st hits, I want hints of fall everywhere … or maybe more than just hints.  I light fall-scented candles, I break out the pumpkin hand soap, and I start adding touches of fall decor to my home.  This year, I decorated my porch for the season, adding some pumpkins and other items to the bench outside my front door.  I’ll share all the details of that later this week but first I want to show you a couple of crafty projects I made for my patio makeover, starting with this repurposed copper mold fall wreath!

I believe this vintage copper mold belonged to my grandmother and it was passed down to me by my Mom.  I’ve always had a thing for copper molds but I’ve had a hard time figuring out what I want to do with this one.  It’s actually been sitting in my garage in recent months but I decided it would make a really great fall wreath.

I bought some other items at the craft store and dollar store: burlap pumpkins, burlap leaves, and a few glittery items to add a little bling.

When making a wreath, it’s generally easiest to start by placing the bigger items.

I put the pumpkins where I wanted them and then used hot glue to hold them in place.  {The great thing about hot glue is it can easily be removed if I decide to use the copper mold for something else later on.}

Once the main items were set, I added a few leaves and a smaller, glittery pumpkin.  I’m a less-is-more person so I stopped there but you could obviously embellish the wreath as much as you want and add pumpkins and leaves all the way around.

To hang the wreath, I wrapped a piece of wide polka dot burlap ribbon around the top {because you can never go wrong with polka dots} …

… and hung it over the top of my door.

My wreath-hanging technique might make you cringe but I’ll tell you anyway.  I hot glue the ribbon right to the top of the door.  It holds the wreath in place, doesn’t disrupt the paint or finish on the front door, and it can easily be scraped off when needed with a little help from a blow dryer.  Please tell me I’m not the only one who uses hot glue for all the things {smile}!

I love the way the copper mold looks against my bright red front door and this little bit of fall has me completely excited for the months ahead!
