Christmas Kitchen Home Tour

Have you started decorating for Christmas?  I’ve barely started unpacking the Christmas boxes but I did get my kitchen {the most used spot in our home} decorated and I thought I’d give you a little peek today.  And the inspiration doesn’t stop there!  My Christmas kitchen home tour is part of a bigger Holiday Home Tour with some of my favorite bloggers!  If you stopped in after a walk through Chatfield Court’s dining room, welcome!  Pull up a chair next to my kitchen fireplace, and settle in for the tour!

I recently moved in to a new house {I’ll share photos in the weeks and months ahead} and the kitchen and adjoining gathering room is my favorite spot in the house.  There’s a fireplace, a huge window seat, tons of natural light, and it’s such a warm, inviting area.  While I still need a bit more furniture to fill it and a few things to warm up the walls, I added some of my favorite Christmas pieces this week and it’s feeling pretty merry and bright.

When it comes to Christmas decorating, I have a very haphazard, eclectic approach.  I like a whole lot of vintage, some traditional plaid mixed with red and green {and sometimes a lot of other color too!}, natural elements, and a bit of the unexpected.

This year I placed a vintage plaid thermos among my rolling pin collection {I have some other vintage plaid treasures too but they’ve yet to be uncovered in the moving boxes} …

… filled a wire basket with my collection of old and new Santa mugs …

… and dug out my Christmas plates to prepare for the holiday entertaining I’ve got planned.  This mismatched but coordinating set of Christmas dishes were a Home Goods find years ago and I could only get four of each kind.  At the time I was a bit disappointed but in hindsight, I love the alternating look on my table.  I’ve even tossed in some old red transferware and it looks pretty great with the bold red and black.

I love to keep a few large Christmas trays close at hand for serving milk bottles full of eggnog, mugs of steaming cocoa, or plates of cookies.  Everything looks more festive when it’s grouped on a tray.

I traded the colorful pillows on my window seat for red and white holiday pillows  …

… and added a salmon poinsettia nestled in a vintage sap bucket.

I love the color, smell, and texture that natural elements add and this year I placed pieces of cedar garland everywhere!

I added a few to the lantern left over from my niece’s wedding …

… tucked them into the trough running down the center of my table …

… with candles and mason jars tucked in among the branches …

… and even tucked some sprigs in among the vintage coffee and tea set perched on my buffet.  Paperwhite bulbs are rooting in the bottom of each piece of the set and, in a few weeks, delicate paperwhites on tall green stems will shoot out the tops!  Won’t that look perfect?

The final touch are a few fun pieces on the mantel over my kitchen fireplace: a vintage coke crate filled with ornaments, the joy sign I cross-stitched onto wood, and my thrift store gumball machine filled with silver bells.

My kitchen feels festive and warm and perfectly vintage!  Now to decorate the rest of the house!

Your kitchen does indeed look merry and bright. Enough Christmas cheer to bring smiles to anyone’s face without overkill. Sometimes I see bloggers’ mantels and dining room tables and wonder how they can eat a meal without clearing everything. I have a small house and love to decorate, but must be practical. Thanks so much for sharing your ideas. I love that gum machine! (I’ve made gumball machine ornaments using clay pots and plastic ornaments – filled the ornament with sprinkles and/or small candies. Merry Christmas to all of you.
