A Thrifted Gumball Machine

I made a quick stop at the thrift store last week and came home with a couple of fabulous finds!  If you follow me on instagram, you’ll have seen the bolt of pompom trim that I scored but I also found a gumball machine!

I’ve been wanting a gumball machine for a while and although this one was missing the top piece …

… I couldn’t resist it when I saw that it was only $1.99!  I kept reading the price tag, certain that I was missing a digit.

I scrounged around in the thrift store and found a metal piece that I could use as the top and because it was such a random little scrap, the cashier threw it in for free.

I rummaged in my garage and found an old drawer knob then drilled a hole into the center of the metal piece.

Both got a coat of bright red spray paint and then went on top of my gumball machine.  The drawer knob screwed perfectly onto the threaded center of the machine and held it all together.

My little DIY repair job looks super cute and I now have a bright red gumball machine that was a total thrifted score!
