I just finished sewing a fun repurposed vintage children’s book pillow for Luke to use on the little rocking chair in his room and I thought I’d share the simple tutorial. I love repurposed home decor and this is a great way to use something old and give it new life!
How to Make an Upcycled Pillow from a Children’s Book
I made a standard {small} throw pillow using scraps of fabric left over from the valance I made previously.
Before I sewed the sides of the toss cushion together, I stitched a picture on the front. The picture was taken from a vintage cloth children’s book I found on ebay. Since the book page is made of cloth, the edges won’t unravel at all. I sewed the picture onto a coordinating piece of fabric, let those edges unravel to give it a shabby appearance {my favorite} and then sewed both pieces onto the fabric I was using for the main part 0f the pillow.
I also added a little plastic blue button and some coordinating ribbon to the corner to give it a bit of texture.
I stuffed the little pillow with cotton batting and simply sewed up all four sides once I added the book page.
I love that this simple book pillow has such a fun vintage feel and it looks perfect in Luke’s room, adding a pop of color to his chair. And it’s such a cute way to salvage an old book that was probably headed for the dumpster. I’m hoping to come up with some neat ideas for the remaining pages of the book!
