Since, at her two year old drips and drops ice cream and sprinkler party, I planned for Tate to change out of her party swimsuit when we went inside, I decided to make her a cute little birthday party dress to wear as well.
The party colors were inspired by the blue and green tones in a beach ball and I found a fun, bold, floral fabric that was a perfect match.
I found a really cute dress pattern online but I didn’t want to buy another pattern that I’d only make once so I revamped a dress pattern I already had instead.
I used this dress pattern {Simplicity 5695} previously to make matching dresses for the younger girls but, for this dress, I removed a bottom ruffle and lengthened the dress a bit. Simple changes like that are so easy to make even if you have very little sewing experience and they can completely alter the look of a dress or other piece of clothing.

I also added a contrasting raggy-edged piece of fabric down the center of the dress to add a little visual interest. The edges of this piece will fray as it’s washed, giving it a bit of a shabby, distressed look {my favorite}. This little accent was a great way to use up some scrap fabric I had in my stash.
This dress is so simple and cute and Tate will wear it over and over again after the birthday party.

PERFECT 🙂 she’ll want to wear it every day 🙂
Love the fabric!
The dress is lovely…very nice fabric!
Oh to have a girl to make dresses for! Great job and I love the idea of making something for a certain occasion that can be used throughout the year.
