Ice Cream Cone Cake

We just finished celebrating Tate’s second birthday with an ice cream and sprinklers drips and drops party.  You can see all the details by clicking that link but let me also give you a quick sneak peek at the easy and adorable ice cream cone cake that fit perfectly with her ice cream party theme!

ice cream cone cake

I had originally planned on making simple cupcakes in ice cream cones {the ice cream cone provides the perfect handle for little ones} but when I saw an ice cream cone cake online, I instantly changed my plan.  {The original site that shared this cake no longer exists so, unfortunately, I can’t show you the inspiration.}

It’s such a cute idea and so simple to pull off, even if you’re not much of a cake decorator {I’m most definitely not}.  I love the way this easy birthday cake turned out.  I iced the cupcakes in the party colors {adding squiggles at the bottom of each cupcake to look like dripping or melting ice cream} to match the table setting and the theme …

… and used red icing for the cherry {with a curly wire stem that will be removed before the cake is served}.   If I had thought about it enough in advance, I probably would have grabbed a red bubblegum ball for the cherry but the icing is definitely cute enough.

The various sprinkles were things I already had in the cupboard {the pearls are left over from Tate’s ice cream cone headband} and I just added them randomly to decorate each cupcake.

The finishing touch is a sugar cone pressed into the bottom cupcake in the stack.

This cake was so easy and really fun to make and a big hit with the kiddos at the party!
