Have you been following along with the coloring party projects this week? These coloring book cupcakes are the final DIY that I’m going to share from the party … and aren’t they fun? I love the way they turned out and the kids had such a great time decorating their own cupcakes with these toppers.
The designs on these coloring book cupcakes are all free-handed but if you can doodle simple lines and designs, they’re actually very simple to make.
You’ll need white fondant {I use storebought fondant from Wilton}, edible markers {also by Wilton}, and a rolling pin.
Roll out the fondant to the desired thickness. I wouldn’t recommend making them more than a quarter of an inch thick.
Using a coloring book for guidance and inspiration if needed, use the black edible marker to begin creating designs on the white fondant. Continue until the entire piece of fondant is covered, leaving white space that can be colored in later.
When the design is finished and completely dry, use a glass or cookie cutter to cut circles from the decorated fondant.
If you’re using this as a coloring party activity, leave the toppers off the cupcake until party time. {If you make the fondant pieces in advance, store them in an airtight container between pieces of waxed paper or parchment paper until you’re ready to use them.}
Add as much or as little color as you want or let each child color their own cupcake topper …
… then add the fondant circles to frosted cupcakes for an artistic and creative treat and the perfect cupcakes for a coloring party!
