A Coloring Party

This weekend we celebrated my youngest daughter’s seventh birthday with a coloring party!  My little one loves creative projects and a coloring party, with lots of simple DIY details, was the perfect way to celebrate!  And totally on trend!

To decorate for the party, I went with the black and white contrast of coloring pages, decorating solely in those colors, adding some pattern, and using coloring pages to create the simple decor.

coloring party

I covered the table with a black cloth and laid coloring pages torn from a book, end to end, down the center of the table to create a table runner then scattered punched coloring page circles all over the table as table confetti.

I used a large coloring page as a placemat at each place setting and topped them with square black plates alongside black and white chevron napkins.

I wrapped coloring page strips around mason jars and set one on top of each plate, filled with a variety of colored pencils.

We used milk bottles to hold the drinks, wrapped them in strips made from coloring pages …

… and wrapped straw flags, also cut from coloring pages,  around the black and white polka dot straws.

In addition to a colorful pinata, we had a few fun activities at the party.  I made coloring page tote bags {you can find that tutorial by clicking the link} …

They also colored their placemats and the table runner with colored pencils and used q-tips and baby oil to blend the colors.

I used my vintage metal cake plate as a centerpiece at the party and filled it with vanilla cupcakes.

The girls used edible food markers to color fondant that I had decorated like coloring pages {I’ll also share that tutorial later this week} …

… and topped their cupcakes with the fondant circles before eating them.  They were such a fun way to carry the theme all the way to the dessert!

When the party was over, the girls went home with their colored tote bags, sacks filled with candy from the pinata, and coloring books and colored pencils wrapped with a strip of coloring paper.

This coloring party was so much fun to plan and put together and the girls had so much fun spending an afternoon creating and coloring!

Love this party idea! I am totally convincing my daughter to do this next year because she loves coloring (but it’s too late this year since the invites have already gone out and we are having a masquerade ball).

What a fun party idea. My tween girls would love this! Pinning so I can remember it next year.

What a fun idea! I could even see doing this theme as a girl’s night out – like those wine and painting parties.
