We just celebrated Tate’s fifth birthday with a fun and vibrant gardening party and I can’t wait to share all of the bright and colorful details!
A couple of weeks before the party, we mailed invitations to Tate’s friends. The party details were included on a thin strip of paper that guests pulled from a packet of seeds.
When party day arrived, we had great {albeit hot} weather and hosted the party outdoors. For kids’ parties, I love using child-sized tables. It’s a great way to make the party feel like it really fits in their world. For this gardening party, I used a long coffee table …
… and turned flower pots upside down to use as stools. The stools were just their size and looked so cute.
I decorated in shades of orange, yellow, and pink and tried to bring in a lot of color and texture. Instead of creating a centerpiece, I hot-glued bright flowers {mostly from the dollar store} onto a piece of burlap and ran it down the center of the table.
Colorful paper plates were layered on top of bright pink chargers shaped like flowers …
… and I used vinyl-monogrammed place markers stuck in moss-filled terracotta pots as place cards.
I used empty seed packets to hold napkins and spoons …
… and removed the center from fake flowers then slid them onto straws and served lemonade in mason jars topped with floral lids.
Each place setting included a party hat embellished with either a flower or green leaves, depending on whether it was for a girl or a boy.
The details were all simple but looked so colorful and festive when they were all placed together on the table.
During the party, the kids had a fun relay race and decorated pots …
… colored plant markers …
… and planted seeds in their pots full of dirt.
They watered away …
… and had a fun little favor to take home at the end of the party.
Before Tate opened gifts, the kids had their way with an owl-shaped pinata {perhaps not completely right for a gardening party but too adorable to resist} …
… and then they sat down for snacks, cake, and ice cream. Each child had a pot filled with chocolate “dirt” cake and a flower cookie on a lollipop stick …
… and we served lemonade from a watering can.
I used my rolling storage cart to hold snacks, water bottles, and other goodies …
… and decorated it with a seed packet garland.
The cart also held polka dot goody bags with flower lollipops attached with washi tape.
The goody bags contained seeds, another lollipop, flower-shaped soap {made with meltable goat’s milk soap and a flower mold} …
… and each child also went home with a metal garden tool personalized {in vinyl} with their name.
And the most important part of the party? This little cutie had a great time!
