Upcycled Pumpkin Treat Box

I definitely don’t lead a zero waste lifestyle but I do have a hard time throwing things out when I can visualize them becoming something else.  That was the case with this project!  I finished a roll of painter’s tape and the shape of the package it came in made it just perfect for repurposing into an upcycled pumpkin treat box!  With just a few simple steps, this plastic box, destined for the trash, became a cute pumpkin filled with treats that makes a fun gift for a friend.

I’ve said before that there’s almost nothing that can’t be turned into a pumpkin and I stand behind that {wink}.  I tossed this painter’s tape container in the recycling pile a couple of different times but hauled it out again and had to upcycle it.

In addition to the container, to make this pumpkin treat box, I also used orange paint {you can brush it on or use spray paint}, thin wire, a small decorative leaf left over from another project, and a round wooden bead.

I painted the lid of the container with a few coats of bright orange paint and then let it dry completely.  {I didn’t even remove the sticker from the box, just painted right over it.}

Once the box was dry, I added the embellishments.

I cut two short pieces of wire, coiled them around a pencil then stretched them out a little, and glued the ends inside the wooden bead.

I hot glued the bead to the top of the box and added the glittery leaf.

To change the look a bit, you could use brown or gold crafting wire, a burlap leaf, and you could paint the wooden bead.  Customizing those details would give this little box an entirely different look.

Once finished, you can fill the box with a favorite seasonal candy or Halloween themed treat …

… and gift it to a neighbor or a friend.

This little upcycled pumpkin treat box is a great way to eliminate waste and it makes a really cute seasonal gift, especially for someone who values recycling and repurposing!
