Have you seen all the neat splatter screen projects on pinterest lately? When I was at the dollar store last week, I couldn’t resist grabbing a few screens and I used one to make a little Halloween decor. I love easy, cheap dollar store crafts and this upcycled pumpkin splatter screen is definitely cheap and easy!
Supplies for a Pumpkin Splatter Screen
To make an upcycled pumpkin splatter screen, you’ll need a dollar store splatter screen {they’re found with all of the kitchen utensils}, orange spray paint {you can also brush the paint on if you already have some orange craft paint in your stash}, painter’s tape {you can even upcycle the tape container when you’re finished}, black vinyl, and ribbon or tulle.
How to Make an Upcycled Pumpkin Splatter Screen
Wrap the handle of the splatter screen with painter’s tape then spray paint the screen.
You’ll probably want to spray it with a few coats to ensure solid coverage. Make sure you paint all around the edge and sides.
Remove the painter’s tape and let the paint dry completely before adding the jack o’lantern face.
While the paint is drying, you can prepare the vinyl.
I used my Cricut machine to make this face. I used an image from the library and cut it out of black shimmer vinyl. {I always use a strong grip mat and strong grip transfer tape with shimmer vinyl.}
If you don’t have a Cricut machine, you can create the face by cutting vinyl by hand or by painting the face directly onto the screen.
Apply the vinyl face to the middle of the splatter screen.
Tie ribbon around the base of the handle {I used lime green tulle and black and white ribbon but I think it would also be really cute with purple tones added}.
Use the pumpkin splatter screen as door decor or a whimsical addition to your Halloween mantel!
This project is so simple but super cute. What have you made with dollar store splatter screens?
