My kiddos started school yesterday! We’re in the throes of another insanely busy school year … I jokingly told my friends I’ll see them all in June. And I’m only half kidding. I snapped the obligatory first day of school photos but this year my kids held handwritten first day of school signs as a fun way of capturing their handwriting at this age!
Luke’s in first grade …
… along with Lila, of course. Heading off to a new year was old hat this time {but not so much old hat for me … I shed a few tears about everyone leaving the nest again}.
Letting the twins write their own signs this year was a fun way to capture not only their sweet little smiles but their current handwriting as well. It’ll be fun to look back on these photos in a couple of years and see how much things have changed!
I added a bit of washi tape to the signs just to embellish them a little but it would also be fun to have the kids color and decorate the signs.
We celebrated after school with our special first day of school cake/treat tradition. This year I made pencil push pops {inspired by Bakerella}.
They’re not perfect but the weren’t overly difficult and they were actually fun to make. The kids loved them! I love that they look like short, stubby pencils. Perfect for celebrating another school year!
Have your kids started back to school? Did you take photos with first day of school signs?

Randi first, your kids are darn adorable! Second- Oh my gosh, those little 1st graders– squeeze those cuties with their little signs! Loved that idea! Your “older” kiddos {because they are the only ones that liked to be called that} Are looking good and ready to roll! You my lady rocked those pencils pops! What a fun treat to come home to! All my kids started back..yes I said all- this is the first year all {getting teary} are in school. boooo. The house is way to quiet, but I do kind of like it- not going to lie. 🙂 Hope your kids have a great year and you drive safe Taxi Mama running to 3 different schools!
