A few months ago I was in a local home decor store and saw a really neat rustic wood star candleholder. It looked easy to make and seemed like a great way to use some of the overflowing scrap wood pile in my garage. The style of this candleholder suits me entirely: a bit whimsical, a whole lot rustic, and quick and easy to make!
To make a rustic wood star candleholder, you’ll need to print a large star template online {make sure the flameless candle [affiliate link] you plan to use will fit in the center of the star} and you’ll need at least thirty pieces of scrap wood. You can use more if you want the candleholder to be higher. The pieces I used were six inches by about two inches.
Sand lightly to get rid of splinters or rough edges. I sanded very lightly because I wanted the candleholder to look rough and rustic.
Lay the wood pieces along the star template, alternating sides …
… and then add the next layer of wood pieces, filling in the missing ones.
Use a brad nailer to attach each of the pieces together in the first layer then add the next layer in the same manner, attaching each layer with the nailer before adding another layer.
Thirty pieces of wood will create three layers. Simply add more pieces if you’d like the candleholder to be taller.
In order to prevent a fire, use only a flameless candle {affiliate link} with this wooden candleholder. It would also look really cute with a plant or succulent in it, wouldn’t it?
This rustic wood star candleholder makes a perfect centerpiece for the fourth of July …
…but it would also be really cute at Christmas … or any day, really!
