I love old hardcover books.  The colorful covers, the gold embossing, the tales those pages tell and have seen … I just love them.  And I love these unique ways to repurpose old books!  From lamps to secret storage boxes to fabulous clutches, these ideas will inspire … and probably have you hustling to the thrift store for a pile of old books!

9 ways to repurpose old books

Old books look amazing when transformed as a repurposed book coat rack!  I love the layering and the bright colors … and you can’t overlook that fabulous book page wall the rack is hung on!

Buy a handful of thrift store hardcover books and use the covers to create a completely unique upcycled book cover valance for a window!

Join old books together to create a repurposed book wall shelf that’s a fun way to display special treasures and keepsakes.  I love the idea of using special children’s titles for a child’s room.

Skip that regular old purse and carry a hardcover book purse instead!  With simple handles added on to an old book, this purse is definitely one of a kind!

This upcycled storage box appeals to my inner child and I think I’m going to make them for my own kids.  They’d love having a secret spot to store a diary key or notes and letters they want to save.

This book knife block is so clever and unique!  I think it would be really fun kitchen decor for a cabin or cottage.

Transform an old book into a zipper book clutch! Wouldn’t it make a great gift for a book lover?  I love the fabric contrast.

I’m a huge fan of succulents so this succulent book planter caught my eye immediately!  I think it would also be really cute with an air plant … and a tiny little book would just be adorable!

How fabulous is a stacked book table lamp? It’s the perfect decor for a study, a library, or a man cave!

And finally, how fun is this colorful book headboard? I love the idea of using children’s books for a child’s room or bright colored books for a guest room.
