Upcycled DIY Cake Stand

When I made my DIY repurposed bench out of my old kitchen table, I had one whole table leg left and part of three others.  I couldn’t bear to throw them away and this week I used one piece to make an upcycled DIY cake stand!

upcycled DIY cake stand made from a table leg

This upcycled cake stand is SO easy to make.  I used part of one round wooden clock face {affiliate link} from my local craft store {I’m just going to ignore the hole in the center since it will always be covered by a cake or cupcakes} and part of a table leg.  I used a saw to cut both ends to make sure the stand will sit flat.  You can make the cake stand as tall or as short as you like by varying the height on the table leg.

And if you don’t have an old table leg lying around?  Use a spindle or a candlestick holder instead!

I spray painted both pieces with rustoleum heirloom white {one of my favorite paints} and distressed some of the edges lightly with sandpaper …

… then used wood glue to attach the painted table leg piece to the bottom of the disc.  I actually turned the disc upside down so the beveled edges faced down because I just liked it better that way.

The final result is a really solid, sturdy elevated cake plate!

You can use a food safe polyurethane to coat it or simply place a piece of parchment paper under the food items.

I’m looking forward to using this cake stand for future parties … it’ll be perfect for cakes, cupcakes, and even appetizers.

I love how you say ” if you don’t have an old table leg lying around” I mean, who doesn’t ???!
This looks great and very practical. A cake stand or two on a party table really do help it all look extra special.
