Rustic Chalkboard Christmas Countdown

This rustic chalkboard Christmas countdown is part of a sponsored post for Michaels.  I received compensation from Michaels in order to participate in the Holiday Pinterest Party but all opinions are my own.  This post contains affiliate links.

Have you heard the fun news?  Michaels is hosting a Holiday Pinterest Party at all store locations on November 15th {1-4 pm}!  It’s a great way to kickstart the holiday season … and I’m going to kick it off even earlier by sharing my version of one of the Holiday Pinterest Party projects: a rustic chalkboard Christmas countdown!

I based my project on this Michaels Christmas Countdown Charger project.  My younger kids love having a way to count down toward special holidays and I knew they’d enjoy changing the numbers on the chalkboard every day.

But I had to put my own spin on it.  While I love the idea of using a charger {clever and affordable, right?}, I knew something a bit more rustic would suit me more.

I bought a wood slice and chalkboard paint and made the cutest Christmas countdown in no time.

I painted the surface of the wood slice with a couple of coats of chalkboard paint and let it dry overnight …

… then added red vinyl letters {cut with my cutting machine} in a cute font.

I seasoned the chalkboard with chalk then wiped it off …

… and wrote my number in.  But a little note: because of the rough nature of the wood slice, the chalk doesn’t wipe away perfectly.  It doesn’t bother me because it fits well with the rustic nature but if you like perfection, you need to know that {wink}.

I used red and white twine to hang a piece of chalk on the side.  I simply tied the twine tightly onto the chalk and used hot glue to attach it to the back of the wood slice.

Simple as can be and we have a fun little countdown for the month of December.  You could even make smaller individual countdowns for each of your kids to keep in their rooms {my kids would love that}!

Have I got you excited about doing a little holiday crafting?  Pop into your local Michaels store on November 15th from 1-4 pm, grab your supplies, and craft away.  Each store will have in-store helpers and a variety of project ideas to get you going!  Kick off the holiday season in crafty, creative style!

Very cute! I like the idea that older kids can take turns changing the number! BUT, I am glad we still have more than 24 days left! …at least for today!
