Repurposed Air Plant Holder

Have you jumped on the air plant bandwagon yet?  I’m a bit smitten with these unique little plants that don’t require any dirt and only need sun, a bit of water, and air.  Crazy, isn’t it?  They look so neat and I decided I needed some in my home!  I whipped up these repurposed air plant holders made from an old bed spindle and the vintage, distressed look is the perfect contrast for these spiky modern-looking plants!

I bought some old spindles {I think they were salvaged from an old headboard} at a local junk market, used pieces of them for the legs on my repurposed DIY bed tray, and decided the shape would make really cute little planters.

I cut them into even segments, all about two inches tall.  The small size is perfect for these little air plants.

I spray painted the pieces with turquoise paint but left them very distressed, allowing the brown to show through for a rustic, aged look.

I drilled holes into the center of the top, about 3/4 of an inch deep, just deep enough for the base of the air plants.

Since my local stores were sold out of the plants, I bought a collection of air plants online {affiliate}.  This was seriously a great way to buy them.  They arrived in just a few days and looked perfect … and it saved me from running all around town to find them.
