I love {almost} nothing more than a good repurposed, upcycled project.  Find some junk, turn it into something else, and I’m sold!  Today I’m sharing a collection of 10 creative ways to repurpose old umbrellas.

Unique Ways to Upcycle Old Umbrellas

This old umbrella has been stripped of its fabric and transformed into a photo holder.  You’d have to hang it high enough that it wouldn’t poke out an eye but isn’t it neat?  Perfect for a vintage photo collection.

An old umbrella would make a beautiful front door decoration for spring.  April showers bring May flowers and this upcycle has you prepared for both.

The umbrella handle makes a very unique coat hook.  Imagine this with a vintage wooden handle. {This link is no longer active but you can likely figure out how to DIY this coat hook from the photo.}

If you’ve got kids, you can turn your old umbrella into a parachute.  The kids will think they’re at gym class in the comfort of their own home.  I really love this idea and might have to add this one to my project list.

A patterned umbrella would make a pretty lampshade for a ceiling light.

Take it outside and turn your old umbrella into a greenhouse or a protective covering for your plants …

… or take the fabric off your large outdoor table umbrella and transform it into a garden trellis.  Wouldn’t this look neat with tomatoes growing on it?  Or a colorful clematis vine?

It’s not just the frame that can be recycled.  The umbrella fabric can be sewn into a reusable market bag … recycling that promotes recycling.

10 ways to repurpose old umbrellas
You could turn an old umbrella frame into a new umbrella with a new knit cover.  This cover was made with a tablecloth.  It wouldn’t stop the rain but it would provide some shade … or a fun photo prop.

And when you’re upcycling, don’t forget the pets.  You could repurpose an old umbrella into a raincoat for your pup {or let this etsy shop make it for you}.

    Some wonderful ideas. I never thought of repurposing an umbrella until now. The mobile is my favourite idea 🙂

    Hi! Thank you for linking to my umbrella turned parasol. Only, could you please change your description? It is a knit cover, not a crocheted one.

    What awesome and creative use of umbrellas! This is a definite must try especially having broken/unused umbrellas that just goes straight to the trash. Love that dog in the raincoat, super adorable!
