Labeled Towels for College

This week I’ll be sending my daughter back to college in another state.  Some of the items she had when living in the dorm last year have seen better days so we replaced a few of the necessities, including her towels.  She’ll be living in a house with four other girls this year and will be sharing a bathroom and laundry room so we decided to make labeled towels so her towels won’t get confused with everyone else’s!

Kennedy has a very distinct minimalist style and loves softer, muted shades with pops of black and white.  It was really fun choosing the furnishings for her room and seeing her style evolve now that she has a space of her own to decorate.  She even did some crafting and created some neat tassel wall art to go above her bed!

The Dri-Soft Plus bath towels she’ll be taking back to college fit well with her style.  They’re available from Bed Bath & Beyond in a variety of colors but Kennedy went with the mineral color, a somewhat neutral tone that fits well with her other decor.

They’re simple but the ribbed appearance adds that touch of something extra and they’re a great value for the price!

The Dri-Soft Plus bath towel is 100% cotton, super soft, and very absorbent.  It’s designed to dry quickly which makes it perfect for students living in tight spaces like dorms or for any college student who doesn’t get the chance to do laundry as often as they’d like.

When labeling the towels for college, we decided subtle was the key.  We didn’t want to alter the look of the towel, just wanted to keep them from getting confused with other’s belongings … and we wanted to add a couple of tongue-in-cheek messages.  {This idea would also be great for parents sending kids to camp in the summer months!}

college move in necessities

I used my cutting machine to cut text from heat transfer vinyl and applied the messages to a corner of the towel hem.

Unlike a large central monogram {that really doesn’t suit Kennedy’s style}, this message is almost hidden unless you need to see it to identify the belongings.

The simple initials and messages don’t affect the towel at all but they’ll definitely remind Kennedy’s housemates who these towels belong to!

what you need for college

Are you packing a kid up for college this fall?  What are the necessities on your college packing list?

    So what? Is he never supposed to wash his towels?

    How does the heat transfer paper not transfer in the dryer?

    That’s not how any of this material works….

      You didn’t read the tutorial fully. The heat transfer is fully washable.
