Knit Wire Vase

I love thinking outside the box and experimenting with different mediums and fibers.  After seeing some neat wire projects recently on ravelry, I decided to make a knit wire vase with pretty glass beads strung along the wire.  The vase knit up quickly and I love the texture it gives to an ordinary glass vase.  The glass beads are the perfect finishing touch and they look beautiful when they catch the light!

To make a knit wire vase, you’ll need 26 gauge wire {I tried 24 gauge but it wasn’t malleable enough to be able to knit with}, glass or plastic beads with a hole large enough for the wire to slide through, and knitting needles.  The larger the knitting needles, the lacier the final appearance will be.

String the beads onto the wire and begin knitting in a garter stitch, pulling the beads in at different intervals to get the look you want.  You’ll knit a rectangle shape, making the width as wide as the item you want to wrap it around. You don’t have to get the dimensions perfect since you’ll be able to easily hand shape the wire after it’s knit, simply by pulling it in different directions and stretching it out as needed.

When the knitting is finished, cut the wire then thread the ends of the wire into the loops, wrap the piece around the vase, and thread it together at the back with a separate strand of wire pulled through the holes.

This knit wire looks really fun around a vase but it would also look great on a glass votive, with the flame reflecting off the beads, or wrapped around a large planter.

That is awesome. I hope you will post it for one of my Its So Very Creative parties on Mondays.
We live in Florida so we are used to flip flops and Santa in a short sleeved shirt–just not the same.
