How to Make a Lemon Vase

I love beautiful tablescapes and I love small touches that make a big impact on the table or at individual place settings.  A lemon vase is the perfect way to add a pop of color and a touch of whimsy to each plate and they’re super simple to make!

To make a lemon vase, all you need to do is hit up the produce section at your local grocery store.  Buy one lemon for each vase you want to make and one or two cheap grocery store bouquets {you’ll only use a few flowers in each vase so one or two bouquets will be all you need}.

Trim off the very bottom of the lemon, creating a flat surface that the lemon can sit on.  Be careful not to cut too high up … you don’t want to get into the pulp of the lemon.

Flip the lemon back over and cut out the top of the lemon to create the opening of the vase.  Use a knife or spoon to compress the flesh of the lemon, draining it into a bowl if you’d like to keep the juice.  Press the pulp as much as you can to create space for the flowers.

Since the acid of the lemon will likely kill flowers if you place them directly inside, you’ll want to push a small container into the center of the lemon.  I used a tiny milk server but you could use a small spice or pill jar as well.

Fill the small container with water and add enough flowers to fill the opening completely.  I also added some thyme and rosemary for a fun touch.

These little lemon vases look so sweet set on each plate at a party and they’re an economical way to add color to the table.
