Homemade Kettle Corn

We’ve become a bit addicted to this new popcorn recipe and I had to share it with you: homemade kettle corn made on the stovetop.  It’s quick and easy to make and so delicious!  I still love our simple microwave version but this one tastes much more like the sweet and salty kettle corn you buy at the fair.

To make one batch of homemade kettle corn, you’ll need:

1/2 cup of popcorn kernels

1/4 cup of sugar, and

1/4 cup of vegetable or olive oil.

Pour 1/4 cup of oil into a large non-stick pot on medium high heat.  Add 3-4 kernels of popcorn.

When those kernels pop, the oil is hot enough to add the rest of the popcorn kernels.  Pour them slowly in {to avoid splashing the oil} …

… then add the sugar, place the lid on the pot, and gently shake the pot back and forth over the burner.  This will keep the sugar from burning while the popcorn kernels heat up.

Shake the pot until you hear the popping slow way down, indicating that the majority of the kernels have popped.

Remove from the heat and sprinkle lightly with salt.

Enjoy this delicious fair treat from the comfort of your own home!
