I haven’t always loved Valentine’s Day {before I met Phil I always wore black on the big day … grin} but I love it now and probably even more since I’ve had kids.  To me, there’s something so fun about making and exchanging valentines.  If you’re like me and you’re already thinking about February 14th, I have a really cute and simple handmade chalkboard valentine for you.  And the best part for those health conscious parents?  It’s candy free!

handmade chalkboard valentine

To make these cute washi tape-embellished chalkboard valentines, you’ll need one small framed chalkboard {affiliate link} for each recipient, love-themed or pink/red washi tape {affiliate link}, chalk, ribbon or tulle, and printable tags {scroll down for the link}.

Cover the wooden frame in washi tape {I used a small craft knife and mitered the corners to match the frame} …

… and use a piece of washi tape to attach a piece of chalk to the chalkboard.

Tie the board with a piece of ribbon or tulle and add the printable board without you label.

These chalkboard valentines couldn’t be easier to make {it would take no time at all to whip up enough for the whole class} and they’re so cute!  And what young kid doesn’t love to draw on their own chalkboard?

If you make a chalkboard valentine, be sure to upload a photo to the Dukes and Duchesses facebook page … I’d love to see them!
