Girl’s Room Makeover

This girl’s room makeover was sponsored by Rooms To Go.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

My youngest daughter is the youngest of five kids.  That means she has always either shared a room or had her own room full of mismatched, hand-me-down furniture.  I love a good hand-me-down and I’m all about vintage, thrifted style but sometimes having your own special place with furniture that’s all yours is pretty great.  With her tenth birthday right around the corner, Tate just got a fun girl’s room makeover with a cute tween girl’s style that will also grow with her into the teen years.

We bought Tate’s new furniture at Rooms To Go Kids.  We spent some time on the website first, to get an idea of what we were looking for and what style we wanted, then Tate and I went into the showroom to see the items in person and place our order.  Tate loved being included in the process and it was fun hearing her ideas about what she’d like in her room.

Although we were pretty sure we knew what we wanted, the store was full of inspiration and decorating ideas …

… and it was helpful to see the furniture and get a more accurate idea of size and style.

I was really glad we had done the online preview because it helped us narrow things down and also gave me a good picture of what I wanted.  We had a really helpful salesperson that was able to answer every question I had and the entire order process was quick and easy, something I didn’t expect from previous experiences with furniture shopping.

On the day of delivery, the crew showed up, quickly brought in all the furniture, and set it up exactly where I wanted it.

We did have one issue with the delivery {the footboard arrived in the wrong color} but customer service was really helpful and quickly remedied the situation, bringing a replacement the next day and switching out the pieces.

It was so great to not worry about hauling the furniture in or assembling it.  The delivery team took care of all of that and we just got to do the fun part: decorate!

We chose the Kids Cottage bedroom set from Rooms To Go Kids and I love the style of the pieces.

It’s available in a variety of colors but we chose white for a timeless look that could be updated over the years with simple bedding or decor changes.

I love lots of storage and organizational space in a kid’s room because it helps get rid of the clutter.  It’s so much easier for kids to keep their rooms clean if everything has a spot.

With that in mind, we chose a bed with a tall headboard with shelves for books and decor.

It not only adds storage space but eliminates the need for an additional piece of furniture, like a shelving unit, something that takes up additional space that we just don’t have.

I added two of my favorite things, a pom pom garland and string lights, to the headboard to add some warmth to the room.  I live by the belief that you can never have too many pom poms in a home {wink}.

As a mom, one of the things I love about the headboard are the sliding doors that hide two of the compartments.  Those are the perfect spots to hide the night-time retainer and other items that I don’t want cluttering up the view.

We opted for the trundle bed option in this set because we have a big family and it’s not uncommon to have extra people piling into the house somewhere.  Trundles are such a great way to add extra sleeping spots without taking up extra space, a clever way to maximize smaller homes or rooms.

The nightstand has additional storage space and I’m crossing my fingers that all these drawers will keep this tween girl’s room cleaner than it’s been in the past.

Tate has plenty of drawer space for all her clothes and other items and it should be easy to keep things organized.  Famous last words, right?

We kept some of the decor that Tate already had, like the mermaid sequin wall art and the sparkle wall hanging …

… but we took down the cabinet door command center in favor of a smaller cork board and calendar above Tate’s new desk.

I’m pretty sure the desk is Tate’s favorite part of her new room!  I love the sawhorse style legs and the sleek style of the desk and Tate is loving having extra space to do homework and draw.

The desk has more drawers for pens and papers and the shelves on the legs are the perfect size for baskets that can hold other items.

Despite the new furniture, we kept a few vintage touches in the room like Tate’s thrift store phone and the upcycled book cover valance that I love.  There probably won’t ever be a room in my house that’s only filled with new items {wink}.

Tate and I are both loving her room makeover and the polished look of the space!  I may need another trip to Rooms To Go to update my own bedroom.

What space would you love to update?
