Shared Room Makeover for Little Girls

If you saw the lighting makeover post I shared recently, you’ll remember that a bedroom makeover has been in the works for my little girls.  We said goodbye to the crib and moved Tate into her big girl bed.  With that switch, I made a few other small changes to the room.  I spent very little on this shared room makeover but the space looks like a completely different place.  {If you want to see some before photos, click here.}

I love Lila’s vintage bed and I knew I’d never be able to match it so my plan was to find something similar that would look cute next to it.  A friend of mine had a bed that was heading to Goodwill and it was perfect!  I didn’t even have to paint it since it was already a distressed heirloom white color that looked great next to Lila’s bed.

I found cute and colorful matching bedding sets at a local department store.  The bedding mixes stripes, florals, and polka dots and it’s just really fun and vibrant.

Tate loves her new big girl bed and has done so well with the transition from crib to bed.  I thought I might be sad to see the crib go but it’s actually been really nice.

I made no-sew personalized name garlands to hang above the beds {click on the link to see the full tutorial} …

… and kept the lamp that I love but changed the trim on the shade to tie it into the new, brighter color scheme.

The old valance was replaced with a fabric strip valance {inspiration found here} using lots of different colors, textures, and patterns.

It looks great with the bedding and it’s one of my favorite changes in the room.  It’s also a great way to use up the fabric stash.

I re-hung the book box in between the beds so that both girls can use it for their bedtime reading …

… and I left the Pottery Barn-inspired magnet/chalkboard tree unchanged.  I still love it and didn’t want to alter it at all.

A little spot for artwork also remained unchanged and the doll closet sits below it, out of the way of general traffic but completely accessible for my girls.

The canvas artwork and rescued dollhouse bookshelf {salvaged from a neighbor’s trash pile} were moved to another spot in the room …

… to make way for the DIY wall desk {click the link for a full tutorial}.  This desk is probably my favorite thing in the room and the pink distressed chairs {a hand me down from a friend} are the perfect place to sit and color.

This was such a fun shared room makeover.  No painting or crazy work was involved but the room was transformed completely and it’s a lovely spot for my girlies.

    What a great bedroom! Pink was my daughter Vanessa’s favorite color when she was young so she would’ve loved this room!

      I believe that thicker row was already there and I just added the text for the days of the week. You should be able to ungroup your calendar and then make your top row wide enough for the text. Does that make sense? If not, feel free to email me a screenshot of your template and I can tell you what I would do.
