Faux Etched Souvenir Jar

Expressions Vinyl provided product to be used in this post but all thoughts and opinions are my own.

We just got back from vacation and while we were enjoying the beautiful Florida beaches, we collected some gorgeous shells.  I wanted to display them as a reminder of our fun family vacation so I created this faux etched souvenir jar using etched glass vinyl from Expressions Vinyl.

I started with a plain, large mason jar …

… and a 12×12 piece of etched glass vinyl in silver.

Using my cutting machine, I created text.  I used spaces between the numbers to spread the year out and make the date line up with the state.  {This font is Aharoni, a font I use a lot because of its blocky letters that cut well.}

Once cut, I applied the vinyl sideways on the mason jar.  Once applied to glass, the etched glass vinyl has the same appearance as true etching.  It’s just far easier and way less messy and takes very little time!

I filled the jar with our collected shells and added twine around the neck of the mason jar …

… then tied one of the shells on to the twine {we found a number of shells that had small holes in them}.

The jar now sits in my painted curio cabinet along with vials of sand from beaches we’ve visited and a couple of other containers of shells from other vacations {a sand dollar souvenir and a labeled shell souvenir}.  It’s a sweet reminder of a really fabulous vacation!
