A Curio Cabinet Makeover with Chalky Finish Paint

This chalky finish paint makeover is part of a sponsored post for DecoArt.  All opinions are my own.

I spent the last few days playing around with a new chalky finish paint and I can’t wait to share the results with you. DecoArt has added a new product to their line: Americana® Decor™ Chalky Finish Paint.  The paint is carried online at Home Depot and it quickly went to the top of my favorite products list!

I have an old curio cabinet that I adore … except for the fact that the color no longer fits in with my decor at all.  This cabinet was a Valentine’s Day gift from my husband shortly after we were married and I use it to hold little trinkets that are special to me.  The cabinet has a lot of sentimental value plus I love the lines of it.  It just needed a little paint update to bring it into this decade.

I used Americana® Decor™ Chalky Finish Paint to give my cabinet a bright new facelift and add some color to our family room.

I painted the inside with a bright turquoise-y blue {called Escape} and the outside with a brown that looks exactly like melted milk chocolate {called Rustic}.

The two colors look so beautiful together!

I experimented a bit with brushes.  A little fact about me: when I decide to tackle a project, I don’t always use the best tools, I use the most easily accessible.  Can you relate?  I started this project using a foam brush but got frustrated when the foam absorbed much of the paint.  Switching to a regular brush was much easier and gave me excellent coverage.  But pardon that lame little brush … remember the bit about easily accessible?  {smile}

The paint adhered perfectly to the surface of the cabinet without any prep or priming making it so quick and easy to give new life to an old piece of furniture.

When the coats of paint had dried {I used two coats to ensure really solid coverage}, I applied the clear Creme Wax and buffed it.  I love the finished look the wax gave my project.  It truly gave a polished look to the ultra-matte finish of the paint.

I debated distressing my cabinet but decided not to right now.  I may go back and add some distressing after living with it for a bit but right now I’m loving the fresh new color and the completely new look to my cabinet.

 I’ve been looking around my house, trying to decide what else needs a little freshening with a coat or two of chalky finish paint.
