Paper Mache Halloween Treat Cups

I love adding a little something new to our home decor during the holidays and I love Halloween projects at this time of year.  This week I made cute little paper mache Halloween treat cups.  They were so easy to make and if you like to do Halloween crafts with your kids, these would be a lot of fun!  Let me show you how I made them.

You need very little to make these bowls.  I went to Walmart and bought Elmer’s Glue-All Multi-Purpose Glue …

… but I had everything else at home.  You’ll need a mixing bowl, white glue, small bowls to use as molds, plastic wrap, and newspaper.

Mix equal parts white glue and water.  {I used the whole bottle of glue, just to ensure I had enough, but I would have been fine with about half that amount.}

Turn your small bowls upside down and cover them in plastic wrap.  I also laid plastic wrap over a cookie sheet and set my bowls on top of that to eliminate some mess.

Rip the newspaper into strips …

… dip each piece into the glue mixture, and start laying it over the bowls.  Criss cross the strips, lay them over areas that seem thin, and just go for it.  Keep applying strips until you’re sure you’ve got a thick enough bowl.

I put my bowls outside to dry.  Once they were dry on the outside, I peeled them off the glass bowls and turned them right side up so the insides of the bowls could dry.

When the bowls are completely dry, trim the edges and paint the outside with orange paint.  I applied two coats.  If you don’t want any of the newspaper printing to show through, you’ll need to apply more.  I like the rustic look of the printing.

You can also paint the inside of the bowl but I wanted to leave mine plain.  I painted little jack o’lantern faces on the bowls {you could also use a Sharpie}.

Fill the bowls up with some Halloween candy and you’re all set with great little DIY Halloween decorations.

Wouldn’t these Halloween treat cups be cute at each place setting at a Halloween party?

    Those are so cute! These would be great for the kids to do. I’ve never made paper mache with glue before though, I always used flour and water.
