DIY Gold Turkey Plates

Yesterday I shared a metallic Thanksgiving tablescape and today I want to show you how I made the simple DIY gold turkey plates used at each place setting.  They’re a quick and easy craft and they add a fun seasonal element to the table.

DIY gold turkey plates

To make these simple turkey plates, you’ll need salad-size clear plastic plates {two for each place setting} …

… and a roll of gold adhesive vinyl.

Cut a turkey shape no bigger than the center of the plate, as elaborate or as simple as you’d like, with your cutting machine and use transfer paper to apply it to the center of a clear plastic disposable plate.

To make the plate food safe, simply layer another clear plate right over top.  The food will be served on top of that plate with the vinyl sandwiched in between and there won’t be an issue with pieces of vinyl getting into the food.  Clever, right?

Place the clear plates on top of large white dinner plates or chargers to make the gold turkey really stand out.  The final look is elegant and classy and no one will know the plates are plastic until they’re touched.

And since food will only touch the top plastic plate, you can save these turkey plates and use them every year.  Just add a new clear plate over top when you’re ready to serve the food.

These turkey plates are a great way to have customized dishes for Thanksgiving without spending a fortune!

why not adhere the turkey decal to the back of the clear plastic plate, instead of sandwiching it in between two plates to sure no gold bits get into the food?

Because then the vinyl would be upside down and the plain white back of the vinyl would show instead of the gold front.
