I love simple, whimsical projects and I really love making fun things for my kids. This upcycled DIY dinosaur pencil holder is cheap, quick, and easy to make which makes it the perfect back-to-school project for the kiddos … and a great way to make homework time just a bit more tolerable!
To make a repurposed dinosaur pencil holder, you’ll need a plastic dinosaur {or other small toy} from the dollar store {be sure it’s big enough to hold the weight of the pencils without toppling over} and two or three wooden pencils. Patterned pencils are always fun and you can find a great variety at most stores these days.
Mark two or three spaces along the back of the dinosaur, spacing them about half an inch apart. Using an electric drill, drill small pilot holes at each mark then drill into the holes again with a drill bit the same size as the pencils. If you’re not a fan of power tools, you could also use a hammer and awl to make the holes.
Clear any debris from the drilled holes, place the pencils into the holes …
… and you’ve got a super fun desk accessory that’ll add some character to a desk and make homework time a whole lot better!
And if the kids put the pencils back every time, you’ll always have a pencil handy for school work.
