An Apple Favor Box {A Back to School Treat}

School starts on Monday and while I’m still denying it in my mind, I think it’s time to prepare for the inevitable.  I love to give my kids a back to school treat and I thought it might be fun if they wake up to an apple favor box waiting at their table places on the first day of school.

These are so easy to make and you can probably find everything you need in your house already!  To start, you’ll need two red Solo cups.

solo cups

With regular scissors, trim the cups along one of the lines on the cup, making them shorter than they are.

cut solo cups

You can see where I cut these cups but you can cut them along any line you like.  Where you cut will just determine how short or tall your apple is.

Using your scissors, carefully make a slit in the bottom of one cup …

… and poke a small twig into the slit.  {You should be able to find a small twig in your yard or in the neighborhood.}

Add a leaf, poking the end through the same slit.  I used yarn-wrapped wire to form this leaf but you could cut a leaf from fabric or even use a fake leaf cut from a craft store flower.

Grab your favorite candy and fill one of the cups …

… then use a glue gun to attach the two cups together.  Use a very thin line of glue along the top of one cup, then set the other cup on top of it, lining up the edges.  Don’t worry if a bit of glue drips down the side … you can pick it off later or just leave it.  Chances are the kids won’t notice.

Super easy, right?  You can make a pile of them for classmates or send one in for the teacher.  These apple favor boxes are quick to make and extremely budget-friendly.

And when the recipient pops the apple favor box open, they’ll find a sweet treat inside!
