DIY Personalized Pencils

You know those fun personalized pencils you can buy?  The ones that have names or little phrases on them?  They’re cute, right?  Well, guess what?  I’m going to show you how to make your own … which means you can add any name or any phrase you want and customize it perfectly for your child!  And the best part?  They’re super simple to make!

DIY personalized pencils

To make your own personalized pencils, you’ll need wood pencils and a wood-burning tool {affiliate link}.

supplies for personalized pencils

Heat the tool and then, using a fine tip, carefully write names or phrases along one of the flat edges of the pencil, near the top.  {You want to write near the top so it doesn’t get sharpened away as the pencil is used.}

woodburning pencils

The paint on the pencil will melt a bit as the wood gets burned so you may need to wipe the tip of the burner as you go.  Use an old cloth or a paper towel but be careful not to burn it.

Don’t expect perfection with your pencils … it’s a little tricky to write on such a small space but the finished text is cute even if it isn’t perfect.

messages on pencils

My kiddos love these pencils and can’t wait to take them to school this fall!  And I love that some encouraging words will go with them in their pencil box and they’ll know I’m thinking of them throughout the school day!
