Last week my master bedroom got a very colorful makeover and it’s now my favorite room in the whole house! The colorful bedroom decor is so bright and cheerful and just makes me feel so happy every time I hang out in this space! While I love the look of neutral spaces and farmhouse style, color is really my thing and the more, the better!
This space is now full of bright colors, lots of pattern, and some really fun and easy DIY projects.
Before I give you the full tour, let’s take a peek at how it used to look. The wall above the bed was home to a wreath and a sign that were both far too small for the space … and far too dull.
The thick plastic blinds on the three windows had all yellowed and aged and become very brittle, making them snap and break easily. We had taped a few slats together {which looked awesome, as you can imagine}, and had just lived with the rest. We never opened, closed, raised, or lowered the blinds because they were so fragile and horrible. I honestly don’t know how we lived with them for so long, especially since I hated them so much, but no one besides our kids had been traipsing through the room and we just ignored the disaster that it was.
The paint didn’t help. It was a very dark beige but it had quite yellow undertones, making it very dull and unappealing. I had planned to paint it for some time but, like the blinds, I just got used to living with it.
When I finally decided to tackle this space, I added piles of color from top to bottom and turned it into a bright and cheerful spot in our home!
The walls were the first thing to get made over. I wanted to paint them in a very buttery yellow tone called Butter Up by Sherwin-Williams and, serendipitously, I found almost the exact same color in the oops paint at my local hardware store! I did have to buy another gallon to finish the job but I painted my entire room {a rather large space} for about the half the price it should have cost!
The light yellow color is so bright and pretty. In bright light, it’s very pale and it looks a bit darker in lower light. It’s made the room feel so much bigger and more open.
I had already torn the old blinds down before painting and I put the new wood window blinds up the minute the paint was dry!
I installed Blinds.com Signature 2 1/2″ Wood Blinds in white and they’re the perfect fit for this room.
The blinds were delivered right to my doorstep, packaged in boxes and wrapped well to avoid damage or shifting in shipment.
I had actually been dreading the installment because I’ve installed blinds in the past and they were very finicky. These new blinds from Blinds.com were a breeze to install! I hung two mounting brackets on each window frame {just a matter of a few screws in the brackets}, slid the blinds right in, closed the bracket, and hung the valance on with the enclosed magnets! I had all three blinds up in about twenty minutes!
I love the way these wooden blinds look in my room and I absolutely love that they actually function. I keep them open all day long, letting the sun stream in {in the spring and summer months I’ll have a pretty view of the pool and the surrounding crepe myrtles and canna lillies}. And at night, I close them up tight for privacy and a cozy feeling.
My new blinds have made all the difference in this space!
After the paint and the new blinds, the rest of the changes were just icing on the cake.
I repurposed my old round kitchen table as a repurposed bench for the end of my bed {click on that link to see the full tutorial} …
… and added a few colorful accents: cute, colorful votives, a canvas photo of my two favorite friends, a colorful frame that Luke built and painted for me …
… a vintage motel sign that I grabbed at a junk sale one time …
… and magazines stored in an old coke crate.
I bought the bedding a while ago and pulled the colors from it to make plank wall art to hang above the bed {click on that link to see the full tutorial}.
On other walls, I kept a mirror I love along with some other decor including the framed seven I made years ago …
… and I kept our wedding photo up along with the shadow box of our old notes from the dating years. I did paint the frame around the wedding photo to tie it in better and I love the difference.
My painted fabric chair sits in the corner {I wish I had a spot to keep it that showed off the fun stripes on the back}, topped with a pillow from the weekend I spent in New York City with Sandra Lee …
… and beside an heirloom cabinet that I’ve had for years.
The final wall in the room houses my work station: a simple spot where I sit and write posts, catch up on my inbox, and plan upcoming projects.
My master bedroom got a new breath of life with this easy colorful makeover and I love spending time in this space! The next step? To add a barn door on the master bathroom entrance. I’m inspired by these barn door ideas!
